Elaine Maher

Instructor

Foundations, Obedience

Elaine has been training dogs for almost 20 years. She has titled multiple dogs in Obedience, Rally, Agility, Tricks, and Nose Work and has also trained in Field and Barn Hunt. She is an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator and is a member of the Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America.

Elaine regularly attends continuing education training, and has a special interest in dogs who are reactive, fearful, or have Big Feelings. She enjoys using the skills she learned as a high school teacher and museum educator to help dogs and their families learn new skills and deepen their connection.

Several years ago, Elaine and her family relocated to Germany. For the move from the US, they travelled by ship, the Queen Elizabeth II, which has kennels on board. The dogs quite enjoyed the dog friendly European lifestyle. Elaine is very proud of her success in the competition ring, but is equally proud of having dogs who will calmly walk through a crowded restaurant, quietly wait under the table during dinner, and then confidently take the subway home!

Elaine, her husband and their Goldens split their time between Great Falls and Rhode Island.
