Three one-day agility seminars with
Mary Ellen Barry

ABOUT THE SEMINAR:
For a dog to run any sequence or course quickly and efficiently the handler must proactively show her dog where the course goes next. These seminars will show you how to communicate with your dog using Linda Mecklenburgs (Awesome Paws) Handling System. We will focus on teaching you and your dog how to do Sends and Recalls through a series of foundation skills and handling drills. Find out what makes this system unique and how it will help you and your dog achieve maximum potential on a course as a team by learning the following:
* The impact of your motion
* The difference between natural cues and trained cues
* What combination of cues to use to achieved the desired response from your dog
To quote Linda Mecklenburg from the August 2008 issue of Clean Run, "When my dog has the ability to send to an obstacle and subsequently recall over the next, my ability to cue my dog to where he's going next almost takes care of itself."
SEMINAR
DATES AND LEVELS:
ATTENTION: **WORKING SPOTS ARE FULL FOR ALL THREE SEMINARS**
Monday, May 3, 2010, 9 am - 5 pm - Sends and Recalls Foundation:
We will help develop your "action plan" to train your dog for sends and recalls. This will include ground work and 1 jump work. This is appropriate for any level dog. Dog's must have been introduced to jumps and should be offering jumps at full height. Dog should also have the ability to send to an object (see Clean Run April 2008 Foundation Fundamentals for how to teach this).
Tuesday, May 4, 2010, 9 am - 5 pm - Sends and Recalls Skills:
We will further development of your action plan by taking the foundation and applying it to short sequences of 3-6 jumps and tunnels. This is appropriate for any dog from the green/novice dog through masters level. All participants in working spots for this day *MUST* have attended (working or auditing) the first day the seminar (December 2009 or a previous seminar), or have the approval of the instructor.
Wednesday May 5, 2010, 9 am - 5 pm - Sends and Recalls Drills:
We will take your action plan from the previous 2 days and put that plan into action! We will run handling drills of jumps and tunnels. You will learn how the sends and recalls fit together and we will fine tune your handling and timing. All participants in working spots for this day *MUST* have attended (working or auditing) the first 2 days of either the previous Mary Ellen Barry Sends/Recall seminars, or have the approval of the instructor. Dogs should be at an advanced or masters level.
IMPORTANT: These seminars are progressive and each one builds on the information presented on the previous day. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you attend all 3 days either as a participant or an auditor in order to achieve full benefit.

ABOUT
MARY ELLEN BARRY:
Mary Ellen has a B.S in Accounting from the University of Scranton and was a CPA for 3 years in one of the big firms and then spent another 9 years in private companies as accounting manager and controller. In 2003, she was laid off and spent the summer teaching dog agility to help make ends meet while she looked for another job. She enjoyed it so much that she didn’t think she could go back to the corporate world and she's been teaching agility full time ever since.
Mary Ellen's popularity as a seminar presenter and instructor has grown due to her ability to break things down for students and explain and clarify concepts. She has an excellent eye and is able to pinpoint simple training exercises for handlers to work on at home to improve coursework.
Mary Ellen has been involved in dog training for 15 years. She's earned an ADCH with 3 border collies, 14 year old Zoe, 9 year old Fizz (who earned her ADCH before her 3rd birthday) and 5 year old E-Z. Fizz and Mary Ellen represented the USA at the 2006 IFCS World Championships in the Netherlands where they earned 6 placements including 3 Gold Medals. They represented the USA again at the 2008 IFCS World Championships in Belgium. She's currently competing with Fizz and E-Z as well as her 2 year old Fizz daughter, Maizy.
Mary Ellen has taught seminars and camps throughout the U.S and Canada. |
